One of our core pillars (assist) involves local and international mission trips. Missions are important to us because they allow us to connect to the public and can give insight and experiences in an international setting. It's like vacationing while working in a sense because you get to learn new cultures, areas, and/or communities, while also providing medical/pharmacy assistance.
In March 2019, Chipo and I traveled to Tegucigalpa, Honduras for our first ever 2-week pharmacy mission trip as pharmacists! With the help of the generous public and Patterson dental supply company, we were able to assist the Baxter ambulatory clinic and Hospital Escuela C.A.I. (HIV/AIDS) clinic with medications, glucose meters, and hygiene product bags. We also provided a women and children's orphanage with hygiene bags as well! We were grateful to provide hygiene products to people who may not have been able to buy them otherwise. Sometimes we take things such as toothbrushes for granted since we get them for free in the United States from our dentists/orthodontists. It's very humbling to be able to receive certain items for free or at a low cost, when others have to choose between buying food or soap, for example. In addition to volunteering in the clinics, we were able to travel and experience Valle de Angeles, Santa Lucia, and even eat at El Patio :). Chipo and I greatly enjoyed the culture and welcoming nature of everyone in Honduras. We look forward to continuing our mission work and meeting new friends along the way. ~Brittany
